Symptom
What is the maximum number of custom fields that can be created at the Service Order Header level in SAP S/4HANA Cloud?
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Resolution
In SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the extensibility framework imposes certain technical limitations (due to DDIC and database constraints) on the number of custom fields that can be added to specific business contexts.
For the business context "Service Order Header", the following quotas apply:
- Maximum Number of Fields: 170
- Maximum Capacity (Characters): 1,700
- Available Capacity for Custom Fields:
- 60% of total capacity is reserved for custom fields
- 1,020 characters can be used for custom field definitions
Note: These quotas are enforced and monitored by the Extensibility Registry. When adding custom fields, the system displays a “Business Context Capacity” bar indicating current usage.
To continue using custom fields beyond this limit:
- Delete unused or obsolete custom fields to free up capacity
- Monitor capacity usage regularly within the Custom Fields and Logic app
