3277881 - HTTP header "sap-err-id : ICMLOGONREQUIRED" is received when testing an HTTP connection to an SAP Web Dispatcher

Symptom

There is a monitoring tool or transaction (possibly provided by a third-party / partner; i.e., non-SAP standard functionality) installed on an ABAP based system.

This monitoring tool requires an HTTP type "G" destination, pointed to the Web Admin UI of an SAP Web Dispatcher.

The aim is to monitor the SAP Web Dispatcher from the ABAP system.

This destination is configured to use "basic authentication" and it has the correct credentials defined.

A "connection test" returns "200 ok". However, the HTTP header "sap-err-id : ICMLOGONREQUIRED" is received (under the "Response Header Fields" tab of the connection test results screen).

The monitoring tool does not work as expected, as a consequence of the apparent authentication failure.

Another possible scenario is that a load balancer is in front of the SAP Web Dispatcher, and the load balancer is unable to determine the SAP Web Dispatcher status.

The monitoring requests from the load balancer receives an HTTP 302 response, instead of the expected HTTP 200 response.
