• Optional ASE license is not checked out or is shown as 'graced license'
  
  
  • ASE log or client show messages of type:
    
    SySAM: WARNING: ASE functionality that requires the ASE_XXX license will be disabled on <date>, unless a suitable ASE_YYY license is obtained before that date.
    
    Configuration parameter 'enable zzz' can not be enabled without license 'ASE_XXX'.
    
    
• This KBA shows uses a few license options as examples, but it applies to all of the possible ASE license options listed in Environment section.

• Example 1 : A license option cannot be activated due to lack of license
  
  
  • When trying to enable ASE SSL feature 'enable ssl'
  • The following messages are reported:
    
    Msg 10834, Level 16, State 1:
    Server '<Server_Name>', Procedure 'sp_configure', Line 1335:
    Configuration parameter 'enable ssl' can not be enabled without license 'ASE_ASM'.
    
    Msg 5849, Level 16, State 1:
    Server '<Server_Name>', Procedure 'sp_configure', Line 1335:
    Verification failed for parameter 'enable ssl'.
    
    
  • The ASE error log reports messages that an optional license feature is not available
    
    SySAM: Failed to obtain license(s) for ASE_ASM feature from license file(s) or server(s).
    SySAM: No such feature exists. Verify that a license containing the feature name ASE_ASM is available or generate and deploy the license from the SAP Support Portal.
    SySAM: FlexNet Licensing error:-5,357
    Configuration parameter 'enable ssl' can not be enabled without license 'ASE_ASM'.
    
    
• Example 2 : A license option is reported as a 'graced license'
  
  
  • The ASE error log reports a message informing that an optional license feature is used in 'grace mode'
  • For ASE compression feature
    
    SySAM: Checked out graced license for 1 ASE_COMPRESSION (2020.01231) will expire Sat 21 Jan 2023 10:36:43 AM EST.
    SySAM: Failed to obtain license(s) for ASE_COMPRESSION feature from license file(s) or server(s).
    SySAM: License feature name:  ASE_COMPRESSION
