3280448 - SAP Commerce high resource usage with Solr Highlighter

Symptom

The sample data provided with SAP Commerce Cloud has highlighting enabled by default for Solr. This may lead to more time spent on garbage collection and more CPU time spent executing Solr queries than necessary.

When checking the system performance of the Solr process in Dynatrace you will observe high CPU usage. In the following graphs, Solr Highlighting was disabled after 10:37.

You will also observe a lot of time spent performing garbage collection in the Eden Space

When analysing the Method Hotspots of Solr, you will see a large percentage of the CPU time spent executing the method HighlightComponent.process(...)
