3289176 - When an employee is rehired, standard field "Termination Date" in Job Information is not cleared out

Symptom

  • An employee was terminated and later rehired, but the Termination Date is still showing Job Information records added after the employee has become active.
  • It was expected that the Termination Date would been set to blank again.

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Job Information

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Terminate an employee. In this example, the Termination Date is Jan 02, 2021:

  2. Rehire the employee using Rehire Inactive Employee;
  3. Observe that all records since Termination still have Termination Date populated. It was not reset to blank/null value.

Cause

This is an expected behavior.

Resolution

This field is not cleared. Once an employee is terminated, this field is filled with the effective start date of the termination record. If the employee is rehired, the value is kept until the next termination takes place. Then, the value is updated with the effective start date of the new termination record.

However, Engineering Team advised that they have observed gaps when populating this field during termination or rehire, and that they are working on a correction for that as part of the ECT-215104.

There is no planned fix dates, yet, but as soon as there is this article will be updated.

Please note that the correction is meant to guarantee that the Termination Date is ALWAYS KEPT in the system after the rehire, not to clear the field's value.

Now, as for a workaround to the fields that may be found empty, there are two options:

  1. In case few users are impacted, go to job history and update the Termination Date manually. If termination date is not editable make any dummy change like changing value for any less significant field, save the changes back and then change that field's value back to what it was before.

  2. In case there are several users with blank Termination Date field, run the job 'Initialize additional entry date fields in job info' in the back-end, and it will populate this data for all the job information records correctly.
