3291933 - Spid <> has exceeded its timeout value while issuing a write for virtual device 0 - ASE

Symptom

  • The following error was reported in the ASE error log:

Spid 449 has exceeded its timeout value while issuing a write for virtual device 0

  • The server error log later reported:

(<path to master.dat>). A system call has not responded for 50 seconds, and Adaptive Server will be impacted until it returns. Contact your operating system vendor for assistance.

  • users are not able to log into ASE
  • Need to issue a kill -9 to shutdown server
  • Server reboot reported the following error in the ASE error log:

basis_dlock: file "<path to master.dat>" already in use by an ASE
kdconfig: unable to read primary master device
kiconfig: read of config block failed

  • When running OS command /sbin/fuser <path to master.dat> does not return any output
  • Host needed to be reboot in order for ASE to restart ASE
