3294301 - Balance of Balance Sheet Opening Account shows as 0.00 after Balance Carryforward Step 1

Symptom

You performed the Balance Carryforward Step 1 (Carry forward accounts) for a fiscal year e.g. 2021.

This generates postings to Balance Sheet Opening Account XYZ <> 0.00 MU (Monetary Unit) as of 01.01.2022.

In the General Ledger Accounts View, however, you observe that Account Balance shows as 0.00 MU.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

Go to the General Ledger work center.

Open the General Ledger Accounts view.

Fill in required parameters for Company ID and Set of Books ID.

Select the Balance Sheet Opening Account XYZ and Period 001, Fiscal Year 2022.

Resolution

Carryforward Step 1 (Carry forward accounts) transfers balance sheet account balances to the Balance Sheet Closing Account as per 31.12.2021.
Equally those balance are transferred back from the Balance Sheet Opening Account as per 01.01.2022.
Typically you would expect a balance according to the movement of balance sheet accounts in fiscal year 2021/2022 on these accounts for respective posting periods.

The balance for the Balance Sheet Opening Account as shown in the view General Ledger - General Ledger Accounts anticipates and simulates the execution of Carryforward Step 2 (Calculate and carry forward profit/loss).
Carryforward Step 2 would transfer the balance of Balance Sheet Opening Account to the Annual Net Income/Net Loss - Account. Therefore leaving it with an ending balance of 0.00 MU as of 01.01.2022.

Balance 0.00 MU already shows in General Ledger Accounts view even before Carryforward Step 2 is performed. This is the expected system behaviour.
