3296065 - What is the difference between Update, Upsert, Import Complete Object and import Individual Object

Symptom

You want to know the difference about the several actions available under Data workbench.

Environment

SAP Cloud For Customer.

Resolution

  •  Update:

Overview: Update existing data using object IDs. Use an exported data file to update.
Context/When to Use: To update previously imported data.

For update of Individual Object, you can export existing data into a data file and use the data file to update.

  • Upsert

Overview: Data with new external keys is created. Existing data is updated.

Context/When to Use: Use upsert when it’s unclear if previously imported data exists.

  • Import Individual Business Object

Overview: Imports data into a specific business object or a specific child item.

Context/When to Use: To import data into a business object and its child items. Example: Opportunity/Opportunity Item/Revenue Plan Reporting.

  • Import Complete Business Object

Overview: Imports all data into a business object.

Context/When to Use: To import additional data or add a child item to a previously imported business object.
