3296288 - "Outdated" status in transports after the Upgrade - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

  • The Test System is in a higher release than Development System and Production System
  • You are using "Import Collection" app in the Test System and the transport has become "Outdated"

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (3-System Landscape)

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Access the Import Collection app
  2. Transport has status "Outdated" and the release at export is below the current system release.

Cause

In S/4HANA Cloud 3-System Landscape, the Software Upgrade starts in the Test System. After the Test system Upgrade (release n+1), the Development and Production Systems are still on the old release (release n) for some while.

When the Test System is upgraded and Development and Production Systems are still on the old releases, the collection version is automatically set as outdated according to the following rules:

  • Collection versions of the type Customizing are set as outdated only after two releases.
  • Collection versions of the type Key User Extensibility are set as outdated after one or two releases, depending on the content of the collection.

An outdated collection version can’t be imported anymore.

A collection version is also outdated when a higher collection version is imported that contains all items (new, unchanged, changed, and deleted items).

Resolution

If the import into the Test System is not possible (transport is outdated), do the following:

  • Forward the transport from the Test System without importing it and then import it into the Productive System.
  • Wait until all systems are upgraded to the same level and re-export the same content again from the Development System and transport to Test and Production System.

Some items of type Key User Extensibility can be imported into higher releases. The capability to import into the test system depends on the content of the key user extensibility transport. Some key user items are not yet enabled to be imported into release n+1. Transport with these content types are flagged as outdated in the test system.

The type of Key User Extensibility objects that can be imported into higher released can be checked in the Extensibility Settings app.

In case some of the items can't be imported into higher versions, a warning will show in the export checks. It's possible to check which item types support importing into higher versions by opening the Extensibility Settings app and choosing KEY USER NAMESPACES. Then, navigate to the Details and view SUPPORTED ITEM TYPES.
