3296456 - Signal 11 (SIGSEGV) error in function des_putdlevel0cnt - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • When rolling back a spid due to hitting Resource Governor limit
  • ASE reports a signal 11 at function des_putdlevel0cnt 
  • Key parts of ASE error sequence are
    • A full example is attached in file KBA_3296456_Full_Sequence.txt

      Address 0x0x0000000001ad505e (des_putdlevel0cnt+0x2e), ...
      Current process (0x46ef01ef) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)

      with stack containing functions

      des_putdlevel0cnt
      closetable
      LeWkTbl::closeWkTbl
      LeSortContext::release

  • ASE may hit a secondary failure during the error handling of the spid
  • Depending on the setting for 'secondary signal handling'
    • ASE can shutdown with 'FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION' or
    • the spid becomes a zombie
