3298546 - SSL installation in Uninstalled status in CSB SSL tool - Recruiting Marketing

Symptom

After uploading all the requested files successfully into the CSB SSL tool the installation goes into "Uninstalled" or "Installation requested" Status even though no error message is shown.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Marketing

Cause

The install is purposefully blocked at the server level. There are several possible causes for this situation:

  1. Missing intermediate cert: The SSL Certificates tool in CSB doesn't allow you to upload more than one intermediate certificate. If you have more than one intermediate certificate file to upload as provided by your Certificate Authority but you only upload one of the intermediate certificates
  2. You uploaded a self signed certificate
  3. You uploaded a private key without a header : because the header was missing the system could not detect it was in an unsupported format such as RSA and allowed the upload.

Resolution

  1. Missing intermediate cert: You will need to combine all the provided certs into one single file to be uploaded (see: 3111993 - How to Upload Two Intermediate Certificates in CSB - Recruiting Marketing).
  2. You uploaded a self signed certificate
Self-signed SSL certificates are not trusted by browsers, because they are generated by the customer servers, and not validated by trusted CAs.
Self-signed certificates may be free but they are only suitable for internal network websites and development/testing environments, not for public sites.
Customers should only procure SSL certificates from trusted, public CAs.
As a result they cannot be installed (note this is the subject of an enhancement to prevent upload in the first place)
  3. You uploaded a private key without a header : please make sure the key always contains lines such as {}BEGIN PRIVATE KEY{}--- and ---{}END PRIVATE KEY{}---

In the cases listed above, the cert will not be installed
In the Certificate Audit history, you will see the Status "installation requested" with "last Modified by" the name of the user who uploaded the SSL files
then
the status will go to "Uninstalled" with "last Modified by" System straight away if the installation fails.
The Status of the installation will also appear as "Uninstalled" on the SSL Certificates list in CSB/SSL Tool.

This means your cert failed the validation and you need to check and correct the possible issues as listed above before attempting to upload and install again.

Note we are working on blocking such issues at the upload stage.
