Symptom
You create a new Journal entry voucher(JEV) and expects the Journal Entry(JE) created is according to number range configured in the system. However system creates JE with a different Number Range.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to General Ledger Work Center
- Go to Journal Entries View and Search for Journal entries created
- The JE Created number is not in accordance with the configuration made. E.g. Expected JE is 00000001 however created JE is 10000001.(Numbers mentioned here are for example and doesn't represent an actual one)
Cause
Eventhough the configuration is made, the assigned number range profile to a set of books is different and hence the unexpected JE number is generated
Resolution
To display the correct JE Number, the configured Number range profile has to be mapped to Set of books as well. Details are below.
Number Range Profile Configuration:
- Go to Business Configuration Work center
- Search for Activity 'Journal Entry Types and Number Ranges'
- Open the Section 'Edit Number Range Profiles for Journal Entries'
- For each Number Range profile and Journal Entry Type, Number range can be mapped. In case the Journal Entry Type is not maintained here, the Default Number Range can be set. This can be done by clicking on 'Edit Number Ranges' button
Once the above configuration is done, now the Set of books have to be configured with the number range profile
- Go to Business Configuration Work center
- Search and Open Activity 'Set Of Books'
- Here Edit the set if books and select 'Company Settings'
- Under Each Company, 'Number Range Profile' can be mapped.
- Map the Above configured Number range profile which was configured for a specific journal entry type.
Once this is done for all required company code and Set of books, newly created JEs will follow the Number range properly
