Symptom
You are trying to add the SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation (iRPA) to the system, however you are facing one of the following behaviors:
- When you scope iRPA in your implementation project scope, system shows the error "SAP Intelligent RPA scoping not permitted: use SAP Process Automation".
- When you try to confirm the milestone "Design Accepted" for your implementation project, system shows the error "Scoping Complete failed; retry or report an incident".
- When you try to merge the change project, the merge fails and the merge report shows the message "Issue found during the technical merge".

Reproducing the Issue
For scenario 1:
- Go to Business Configuration work center.
- Enter the Implementation Projects view.
- Select the implementation project.
- Click on the Edit Project Scope button.
- Proceed with the steps in the wizard up to the Questions step.
- Expand Communication and Information Exchange -> Integration with External Applications and Solutions -> Integration Scenarios for Cloud Solutions from SAP.
- Mark the checkbox for the question "Do you want to enable integration with SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation?".
- Proceed to the review step.
For scenario 2:
- Go to Business Configuration work center.
- Enter the Implementation Projects view.
- Select the implementation project.
- Click on the Open Activity List button.
- Search for activity Confirm Milestone: Design Accepted.
- Click on the link to open it.
- Mark the design accepted checkbox.
- Click on Confirm.
For scenario 3:
- Go to Business Configuration work center.
- Enter the Implementation Projects view.
- Select the implementation project.
- Click on the Open Activity List button.
- Search for activity Merge Changes.
- Click on the link to open it.
- Click on the Start Merge button.
- After the merge process is completed, click to open the merge log file.
Cause
As of Business ByDesign release 2302, the SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation(IRPA) process was replaced by the SAP Business Process Automation process. Currently this should be the scoping question selected to work with Robotic Process Automation functionality.
Resolution
Descope the iRPA question from the project scope and proceed with the implementation of the project.
You can do this by following the below steps:
- Go to Business Configuration work center.
- Enter the Implementation Projects view.
- Select the implementation project.
- Click on the Edit Project Scope button.
- Proceed with the steps in the wizard up to the Questions step.
- Expand Communication and Information Exchange -> Integration with External Applications and Solutions -> Integration Scenarios for Cloud Solutions from SAP.
- Uncheck the checkbox for the question "Do you want to enable integration with SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation?".
- Check the checkbox for question "Do you want to enable integration with SAP Build Process Automation (BPA)?".
- Proceed with the confirmation steps to finish the project scope.
