3301177 - Purge inactive user fails with the error: "User Purge failed. Please check the server log or create a ticket. "

Symptom

  • The purge of inactive employment is failing with the error: "User Purge failed. Please check the server log or create a ticket."
  • When performing a soft purge of an inactive user with a secondary assignment(secondary employment), it is failing with the error:
    "Data purge process failed for purge object type = UserObjectType. Please check for any data inconsistency in your system or contact customer support.
    Start execution of job [jobExecutionId=xxxxxx]"

 

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
  • SAP SuccessFactors HXM Suite

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Data Retention Management
  2. Under "Manual Data Purge", select "Create New Purge Request"
  3. Select the option "Purge Inactive User"
  4. under "Add purge user criteria", choose "Upload a list of users (by User ID or Assignment ID)"
  5. Click "Download Example" to download the template. You can change the value from Assignment ID (default) to User Id if preferable
  6. Edit this file and add the user id values of all the users to be purged and upload the file
  7. Add an approver and click on 'Launch Immediately'
  8. Check the error message: "User Purge failed. Please check the server log or create a ticket. "

    In the job details the following appears: 

    "Data purge process failed for purge object type = UserObjectType. Please check for any data inconsistency in your system or contact customer support.
    Start execution of job [jobExecutionId=xxxxxx]"

Cause

The Secondary assignment start date is set earlier than the start date of the Primary Assignment.

Resolution

Check the assignment for the user affected, a person primary employment should have started earlier than this secondary employment. Also, ensure that in Manage Data > Secondary Assignments the mapping for the assignments is correct for the User ID.
