Symptom
- Unable to View the SQL Query.
- Able to View, and Edit Command Objects of other reports.
- Cannot View, or Edit the Command Object of a report, in Crystal Reports.
Environment
- SAP Crystal Reports 2013
- SAP Crystal Reports 2016
- SAP Crystal Reports 2020
Reproducing the Issue
- In Crystal Reports, open a report based on a Command Objects.
- Under the menu "Database", select "Database Expert..."
- In the "Database Expert", under "Selected Tables", right click on the Command Object, and select:
- "View Command"; or
- "Edit Command" - Nothing is happening, or it prompt to select an ODBC DSN.
Cause
- The computer on which Crystal Reports is installed, is not configured to connect to the database the report uses.
- To be able to view, or edit a Command Object, a successful connection to the database the report is based on is required.
Resolution
- To be able to View and Edit the Command Object of a report, install and configure the database connection the report uses, on the computer where Crystal Reports is installed.
- For examples:
- If the report connects via ODBC to MS SQL Server using the ODBC DSN: MyConnection,
then the solution is to install the MS SQL Server ODBC driver, and create in Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator an ODBC DSN to MS SQL Server called: MyConnection.
- If the report connects to Oracle, via a direct connection,
then the solution is to install and configure the Oracle Client on the computer where Crystal Reports is installed.
For Crystal Reports 2013, 2016, install a 32bit Oracle Client.
For Crystal Reports 2020, install a 64bit Oracle Client.
- Note: If you need assistance in installing and configuring the database client, contact your Database Administrator.
