3308257 - Identity Provisioning job failed with error - "Connection pool shut down" or "Connection manager has been shut down"

Symptom

The following errors occur in job log:

org.quartz.JobExecutionException: Cannot execute provisioning job in tenant context: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Caused by: com.sap.cloud.ips.connector.exception.ProvisioningRuntimeException: Error during execution on behalf of tenant with ID:  xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxx 
Caused by: com.sap.cloud.ips.runtime.exception.ProvisioningException: Can not read entities from source system: '<Source System Name>: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxx' 
Caused by: com.sap.cloud.ips.connectors.api.ConnectorException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Connection pool shut down 
Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Connection pool shut down
