3314935 - Report Material Inventories - Balance Summary Deviates from Inventory Cost History

You run the Material Inventories - Balance Summary report for Key Date Today and notice deviations in Inventory Value when compared to the Cost History for a material and respective Business Residence.

Even a larger negative Inventory Value can show although there is no stock or negative stock allowed.

SAP Business ByDesign.

1. Go to Inventory Valuation work center.
2. Go to Reports and List.
3. Open the Material Inventories - Balance Summary report.
4. Specify pertinent selection criteria as to material, business residence etc. and Key Date as Today (e.g. 20.03.2023).

The Inventory Value shows a different amount as the Inventory Cost History for this current month (e.g. 003.2023). Depending on the circumstances even a negative value can show although no negative stock is present. 

The WIP Clearing run for involved product and production lots has been performed for the current month.
When running the Material Inventories - Balance Summary report with a Key Date Today (e.g. 20.03.2023) this will not include the postings of the WIP Clearing as these are posted effectively only at the end of a period (e.g. 31.03.2023).

If, for example, you always close a month with 0.00 ea Inventory Quantity, hence 0.00 USD Inventory Value, and run the WIP Clearing during the current month this can result in obvious misleading results in Material Inventories - Balance Summary report as it does not include the WIP postings yet.

In case a WIP posting in 003.2023 results in a posting of 1,000 USD - this amount is not included in Material Inventories - Balance Summary report with a Key Date today (20.03.2023) yet.
Under this condition a native Inventory Value of -1,000.00 USD would show for the inventory account.

When routinely running the WIP Clearing during a current month adjust the Key Date to the last day of this month (e.g. 31.03.2023). This will include the WIP postings with an effectively pre-dated Posting Date.
