Symptom
When trying to refresh a workbook in Analysis Office, the user is asked to logon to BI platform, without the option to skip the logon dialog.
In older versions of Analysis Office, the user could skip the logon to BI platform and connect directly to the BW system using a local connection.
Environment
SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office
Reproducing the Issue
- Try to refresh an existing workbook in Analysis Office;
- The logon dialog to BI platform is displayed without the option to skip.
Cause
The affected workbook contains a data source that uses an OLAP connection from BOE/BIP for the communication with the BW system.
The following entries (e.g. BoeID and BoeCuid) can be found in AO traces when the data source uses an OLAP connection from BOE/BIP:
-----------------------------------------------
Successfully deserialized SystemInfo from workbook XML for data source '...'
...
IsLocal : False
BoeId : <ID>
BoeCuid : <CUID>
...
-----------------------------------------------
The traces can be recorded by following the instructions of SAP note 2129389.
In older versions of AO, the user could skip the logon to BOE/BIP and AO could connect to a BW system via local connection. However, this behavior was incorrect and could lead to data inconsistencies, since AO might connect to wrong system.
Also, the workbooks might be maintained by system administrators and they would expect to have a centralized connection management via a platform like BIP or SAC. If the user can bypass the logon to these platforms, the workflow is broken.
In addition, storing in BW platform workbooks that use OLAP connection is not a typically supported scenario. Typical use case is that either BW workbooks using BW systems are stored in BW platform or workbooks using OLAP connections are stored on BIP/BOE.
In latest versions of AO, if the workbook contains an OLAP connection, AO insists on logon to BOE/BIP while refreshing the workbook, regardless if it is stored in BW platform or locally. The user must have valid BOE/BIP credentials (or SSO is configured for BOE so that username/password are not used).
Resolution
Solution #1
Use the Replace System functionality to remove BIP/OLAP information. Refer to SAP Note 2448743.
Solution #2
Logon to BIP system using user and password or configure the SSO to BI platform.
