3319334 - Server hung during 'alter database' and processes stuck in runnable state - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Processes are hanging, being in a runnable state while waiting for the diskmap lock held by an ALTER DATABASE to be released.
    • Due to (many) reconnections attempts, ASE may report Error 1601: There are not enough 'user connections' available to start a new process

  • HK WASH process seemed blocked.
  • Unable to kill the spid and it is in runnable state.
  • A spid is running 'alter database' and also in runnable state
