3321712 - Error: "Endpoint configured for client-certificate authentication was called with basic authentication" when connecting from SAP ERP to Cloud Integration

Symptom

You see the following error in Cloud Integration (CPI) system logs when connecting from SAP ERP to CPI SOAP adapter:

Unauthorized. Endpoint configured for client-certificate authentication was called with basic authentication.

In ABAP traces (transaction SM59), you can see an HTTP 403 Forbidden error and the following error details:

An internal error occurred during message processing. For error details check the System Logs Monitor in https://<CLOUD_INTEGRATION_HOST>:<CLOUD_INTEGRATION_PORT>/itspaces/shell/monitoring/SystemLogs</faultstring>
