3325404 - "Error: StartDocPrinter failed" when printing to SAPSprint

Symptom

When printing to SAPSprint, the spool status in Transaction SP01 is "Incorrect (SAPLPD reported error)".

 

The Spool Event Log contains the following:

The processing SAPLPD is reporting an error

SAPLPD has reported problems

 

A detailed SAPSprint trace contains the following error for the failed spool:

Error: StartDocPrinter failed
