3327907 - Error when Changing the status for a Service Category Catalog to Released

Symptom

The following error occurs when changing the status of a Service Category Catalog to Released:

Conflict between catalog ID_5 (version 1) and catalog ID_1 (version 1). There is a usage conflict between the specified catalogs. Therefore you cannot release this catalog.

(Catalog ID_5 represents the catalog ID of the new catalog and catalog ID_1 represents the catalog ID of an existing and released catalog).

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Service Entitlements work center.
  2. Go to the Service Categories view.
  3. Select Catalog ID ID_5
  4. Click on the Change Status button and select the Release option.
  5. The following error occurs:
Conflict between catalog ID_5 (version 1) and catalog ID_1 (version 1). There is a usage conflict between the specified catalogs. Therefore you cannot release this catalog.

Cause

The error occurs because Catalog ID ID_5 and Catalog ID ID_1 are using the same documents under Usage and the valid from and valid to dates are overlapping.

You can have only one active catalog per usage, for example for service requests or service orders, at any one time.

Catalogs with overlapping periods and overlapping usages are not allowed.

Since the usage in both Catalog ID ID_1 and ID_5 is for the same documents and the Valid From and To are overlapping the error occurs.

Resolution

This is the expected system behaviour.
