3328861 - Initial RFC connection to ABAP system with load balancing enabled is slow

Symptom

When connecting to an ABAP system via RFC (for example: from another ABAP system or a product using JCo/NCo) the initial connection/logon time is much higher than subsequent calls.

For example, an SM59 connection test from one ABAP system (the RFC client) to another ABAP system (the RFC server):

The Cause and Resolution of this article only applies provided the following:

  • The RFC server is a NetWeaver AS ABAP or ABAP platform system. (The "target ABAP system".)

  • The destination/connection from the RFC client to the target ABAP system is configured to use load balancing.


  • The logon group defined in SMLG of the target ABAP system is configured with "Ext. RFC-enabled" set to enabled/true.
