3329024 - "Server is not operational: SSL server certificate mismatch" in the SAP Web Dispatcher Web Admin UI

Symptom

When accessing the SAP Web Dispatcher Web Admin UI and navigating to the "SID -> Monitor Application servers" menu tree on the left ("SID" stands for the System ID of the affected backend system), one or more instances show a red triangle. When hovering the mouse of the triangle, the following message appears: "Server is not operational: SSL server certificate mismatch".

The Web Dispatcher trace file (dev_webdisp) shows entries similar to the ones below:

[Thr ...] <<- ERROR: SapSSLSessionStartNB(sssl_hdl=7f1e90151710)==SSSLERR_SERVER_CERT_MISMATCH
[Thr ...] *** ERROR => SSL handshake with [hostname:port] failed: SSSLERR_SERVER_CERT_MISMATCH (-30)
[Thr ...] Server certificate does not match supplied TargetHostname (rfc2818 section 3.1)
