Symptom
While importing a legacy MDF object, like cost center, the import fails with an error saying that there is a mandatory association to another object.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Import and Export Data
- Download the template to import a MDF Object, like Cost Center
- Fill the mandatory details in the template and import it
- Import fails with an error that there is a mandatory association configured.
Cause
There is an association configured in the object and it is set as Required. Since the import template does not include the option to fill this association, the import fails.
Resolution
- Make the import of the association before the import with the object's details. In Import and Export Data, download the template for the object, and fill the file that has the object name and the associated object. For example: if cost center has an association to legal entity and you are trying to import cost center, import first the file "Cost Center-Legal Entity" and then proceed with the import only of "Cost Center" file.
- Another option is to set the association to non-required. Access Configure Object Definitions -> Object Definition -> select the object -> go to Associations section -> click on the details of the association and make the changes.
NOTE: if you have more than one association configured, it will not be possible to create the object via import, as the association error will always happen. In this case, please set one association as non required or create the object via Manage Data.
