3338556 - 'Failed to Fetch Data' or 'Couldn't access the data source' is shown for widgets after running a Duplicated Story report - People Analytics

Symptom

After duplicating a Story report, the widgets show either of the following errors:

  • Failed to fetch data (when Optimized View Mode (OVM) is enabled)
  • Sorry, we couldn't access the data source (OVM disabled)

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors People Analytics

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create New story report in Report Center
  2. Create a simple query, e.g. from Basic User Info etc.
  3. Save query and then add a chart or graph widget or Table to the Story page
  4. Enable OVM from Story Details
  5. Save the Story
  6. Go back to Report Center
  7. Duplicate the Story
  8. Open the copy in view mode
  9. See errors fetching data

Cause

After duplicating or copying a report, generating the calculation view for the new Story report does not immediately complete so there is a need to wait for while.

Resolution

The user needs to wait a while before running the copy since new calculation view generation takes some time.

On encountering the "Failed to load data" error, can you do the following:

  • If the user has only view permission, user can perform "Data refresh" option available in the toolbar to render the widgets.
  • If the user has edit permission, it is recommended to switch to edit mode and save the story, as this will trigger the performance optimization on the story. When the user goes to edit mode , they would get a toast message like below today to do click on save already.
“Some data models have been changed since the story was last saved. To make the next story loading and opening faster, resave the story.”

This is currently considered to be an expected behavior but there are plans to improve this in the future (no ETA for delivery yet).
