3339644 - How to change the URL hostname for a SAP Datasphere tenant?

Symptom

How to adjust the URL of a SAP Datasphere tenant?

For example: “https://<Tenant Host Name>.eu10.sapdatasphere.cloud"

Environment

SAP Datasphere

Resolution

Note!

The change of URL hostname is only possible via deletion and recreation of the tenant, no exception.
As SAP Datasphere tenants may have different commercial models, the deletion and reprovisioning process is different according to the commercial model of the tenant.

1. My Datasphere tenant is part of BDC (Business Data Cloud), hence provisioned in SAP for Me

For Datasphere tenants which are part of BDC model, the hostname can be defined ONLY during provisioning and NOT afterwards.
The URL/hostname of a BDC Datasphere tenant can be defined when creating the tenant in SAP for Me, and it is NOT possible to modify this later.

The existing option is to delete the tenant via SAP for Me and recreate the tenant with the desired URL hostname.

2. Tenant was provisioned in my BTP global account via BTP Cockpit

For tenants which are Customer Managed via BTP Cockpit the hostname can be defined ONLY during provisioning of the CPEA tenant, and NOT afterwards.
The URL/hostname of a CPEA/BTPEA Datasphere tenant can be defined when creating the tenant in BTP Cockpit, and it is NOT possible to modify this later.
Additionally, it is NOT possible to adjust the hostname of a tenant during plan upgrade since it was defined in the creation of the service instance.

The existing option is to delete the tenant via BTP Cockpit and recreate the tenant with the desired URL hostname.

3. Tenant was provisioned and is managed by SAP, and therefore it is NOT visible in your BTP global account

To update the URL of an existing SAP Datasphere Tenant which is SAP-Managed:

  1. Create a ticket via SAP for Me selecting "Component" as "DS-PROV" and use following template as "Description":

"Following KBA 3339644, I would like to request URL change for my existing SAP Datasphere tenant managed by SAP.
I, being the SAP Datasphere tenant's owner, understand that URL change means receiving a completely new tenant.
So the existing tenant will be deleted, and a new tenant with expected URL will be provisioned.

    • Existing SAP Datasphere tenant URL FOR DELETION: <existing_url>
    • Expected SAP Datasphere tenant URL FOR PROVISIONING: <expected_new_url>              "

For scenarios WITHOUT object migration:
"I confirm a migration period is not necessary, because there are no objects to be migrated from old to new tenant.
Therefore, proceed with immediate old tenant deletion."

For scenarios WITH object migration:
In case migration period is required to transport objects from old to new tenant, adjust the text above with the template below:
"I am aware there is a non extendable period of 30 days for data migration between old and new tenants.
I accept the responsibility for the migration of content and data between the existing and new tenant.
I also understand that SAP will not perform the content and data migration."

SAP Support team will then proceed the request and update once completed.
