3343061 - Service not starting due to Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx

Symptom

Service is not starting.

In Cloud Portal > Services, you see the Status remains Not Ready.
If KBA 3349726 - Replicas of a service not starting up or in endless loop is used, the logs of that service show it is restarting endlessly.

If filtered to see logs.log, at first, the logs are as usual:

INFO: About to load keystore: /usr/java/sapmachine-17/lib/security/cacerts
...
NOTE: Picked up JDK_JAVA_OPTIONS: ...

The next logs, however, instead of being the expected:

Created HYBRIS_LOG_DIR folder at /opt/hybris/log
Created HYBRIS_TEMP_DIR folder at /opt/hybris/temp

Are actually:

Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx

And before those, instead of:

Setting CATALINA_MEMORY_OPTS: -Xmx<Size in GB> -Xms<Size in GB>

Are actually:

Setting CATALINA_MEMORY_OPTS:  -Xmx -Xms
