3347264 - Option to choose display unit / Currencies in Column or Row not available for BW queries

Symptom

For SAP BW data sources you can set the position of the Display Scale/Currencies/Unit in the Styling panel in Data Analyzer.

For instance, you can choose to set the currency at the column or row level.

However, in some customer systems this option is not available even when using BW as the source.

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud 2023 QRC1 and later releases

Reproducing the Issue

In Data Analyzer choose a BW system as source for the Data Analyzer insight.

After adding required measures and dimensions go to the styling panel.

Option to set the display for row or column is not available (option does not show up at all in the panel).

Cause

When using Data Analyzer on a live BW data source, many of the features and functions are dependant on the BW system itself supporting them.

Data Analyzer generally simply parses the results of the query as received from the BW system, so if a feature is not supported in BW it will not be available in Data Analyzer.

Resolution

Because SAP Analytics Cloud is more reliant than most products on having an up-to-date BW system (if live data connections are used), we recommend a validation strategy for new BW service packs on a quarterly basis to keep the BW system current with the SAC Quarterly Release Cycle.
