Is there a maximum size for images in the section descriptions of performance forms?

There is no limit on an image size in the performance form sections. 

However, there can still be display issues or text can appear out of alignment if the image is too big. How the images display and the impacts of the text will be dependent on various configurations within the performance form. It's highly recommended to test the image sizes on sample launched forms before starting the performance process.

Example: The image is configured with a large fixed width attribute: width="1500". This width prevents the Legacy PM form page from responding correctly to browser zoom. As a result, the  the left-sided buttons are hidden to the right of the screen and can only be accessed by using the horizontal scroll bar. This behaviour is only replicated in Legacy PM form experience and is expected.

It's not recommended to set a fixed width for large images. To fix the issue, remove the width attribute via the Mange Template pages or from the template XML.

Note: images can behave or look different when printed as a PDF. It may be a good idea to test the PDF print options to ensure the image displays as intended.
