3352261 - Email notifications aren't sent for a calendar task with "activate the task at start date automatically" in SAP Analytics Cloud for Planning (SAC)

The following behavior occurs in SAP Analytics Cloud for Planning (SAC):

• You create a calendar task from the Calendar manually and enable the option "activate the task at start date automatically".
  or
• You create a composite task by the method CreateCompositeTask() with AutoActivate:true in an application or optimized story.
• The email notification is not sent to the assignee when the task is activated at the start date.
• The other events, like "Task Overdue" or "Task deleted" do generate an email notification.

This works as designed.

The only way to notify assignees, reviewers, etc. about their assignment is to use the "Activate + Notify" function.

Unfortunately, the auto-activate is a simple automatic activation that doesn't include a notification.

The behavior may have been different in the past by accident and has been fixed now.

The SAC development team have discussed the requirement on their side and plan to add it to our backlog. However, we cannot provide a timeline for this request at this time.

Please work with your CEE to get updates on this feature enhancement.

In the meantime, here are a couple of workarounds you can consider:

• Instead of using the auto-activate switch, you may manually activate + notify the Calendar events at start the start time. If you have a (root-) Process as a container of your Calendar events, then you need to use activate + notify on the parent Process. The activation + notify will include the child Calendar events as well.
• Use reminders to notify assignees / reviewers before the start-date. See reminders in the time section. If the start date of your Calendar event is already in the past, then you can also use immediate reminders to send ad-hoc messages. 
  Please be noted that the reminders of the parent process are NOT applied to the child Calendar events so the reminders would need to be set for each calendar event.
