3357471 - Serial numbers missing from Physical Inventory Document

Physical Inventory Document is missing serial numbers for the item.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud

1. Create PI Document for your material / plant / storage location using the app 'Create Physical Inventory Documents'.
2. Enter the Count for the PI Document using the app 'Manage Physical Inventory Count'.
3. You are are not prompted to enter any serial numbers.
4. Post the Difference for the PI Document using the app 'Manage Physical Inventory Document'.
5. Material Document posted without any serial number assigned even though the material has a serial profile assigned.

The material refers to the serial profile S001. For MMSL - Serial Usage = 02 (Optional), Which means the serial number is optional at the time of a goods movements.

If serial numbers are required you need to change the Serial Profile to YBP1 which has serial usage = 03  (Obligatory) for MMSL. 

Serial Numbers in Inventory Management

Serial number handling in Inventory Management is carried out for all materials that require serial numbers. You have to make the following settings for this:  

• A serial number profile with the procedure MMSL (maintaining goods receipt and goods issue documents) must be entered in the material master record.

• The stock check indicator in the serial number profile should be configured so that an error message appears when there are inconsistencies in Inventory Management.

• If a stock check is to be performed, the indicator of the same name must be set in the serial number profile.

• To ensure that the individual stocks are recorded correctly, you must define the indicator as follows:

  • The serial number usage for the procedure MMSL must be 03, meaning that the assignment of serial numbers is mandatory for goods movements.

  • The stock check must be 2, meaning that if the stock data is inconsistent, the system does not perform the posting and issues a corresponding error message.
