3358089 - "Publish cannot be performed because the data audit table has reached the maximum number of rows" when publishing the result of a data action in SAP Analytics Cloud for Planning (SAC)

Symptom

  • Publish cannot be performed because the data audit table has reached the maximum number of rows.
  • "An unexpected technical error occurred." when publishing the result of a data action in SAP Analytics Cloud for Planning (SAC)
  • Error: 502 Bad Gateway: Registered endpoint failed to handle the request.

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

Any activity that attempts to update data in a public or private version will generate this error.

Cause

The data change audit log has reached its maximum capacity of 2 billion records.

Resolution

Depending on the type of data input tasks implemented, the (per model) data audit log can increase in size rapidly and eventually reach it's maximum size of 2 billion records.

For instance, a data action that regenerates all data in a version due to improper memberset filtering can easily generate millions of records per execution.

As there is currently no process to automatically delete records in the data audit log once it has reached it's maximum size, any further attempt at changing data will fail.

You can delete selected records until you reduce the size of the audit log enough for the data to be published. Filtering on the log allows you to filter on date, version or other dimension members to selectively choose what log data you want to delete. Note that there are timeout issues when deleting large amounts of data from the audit logs, so you may need to delete by small segments until you have deleted the desired amount of records. We are working on improving the number of records that can be deleted in a future update.

For urgent cases where historical audit data is no longer required you can turn off data audit, save the model, and then Turn back on and re-save the model to delete ALL data audit log records.
