3359210 - Not possible to create Global Variants in Analysis for Office workbook

Symptom

It is not possible to create a Global Variant. Variants can only be used by the user who created it.

In Prompt Screen, when an user create a variant and click on "Show Variant Settings" > "Edit Variant Setting" the type is fixed to "User" and it cannot be changed.

Environment

  • SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office
  • SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform

 

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create an AO workbook and save it to BI Platform
  2. Create a new variant and save it
  3. Launch the workbook with a different user and click on variant settings
  4. The list does not contain Global Variants created by other user

Cause

In the Central Management Console, properties of the Analysis Office Runtime, the "Variants Support" is not set to "User and Global".

Resolution

Change the properties of the Analysis Office Runtime "Variants Support" to User and Global:

  1. Open Central Management Console
  2. On the drop down list on the top left select "Applications"
  3. Right click on "Analysis for Office Runtime"
  4. On "Variants Support" make sure "User and Global" option is selected
  5. Reopen Workbook > Click on "Prompts" and confirm you choose type "User" or "Global"
