Symptom

  • ASE performance degraded and the execution time of user transactions increased.
  • MDA table monProcessWaits reports high WaitTime on WaitEventID 280 - "wait for access to a memory manager semaphore for many connections."
  • dbcc stacktrace output reports the following stacks:
    • Allocating heap memory
      upsleepgeneric
      kbpsema
      kbinsert
      createpool_n_alloc
      memallocheap
    • Deallocating heap memory
      upsleepgeneric
      kbpsema
      kbremove
