3373725 - sybsystemdb and sybsystemprocs cannot be decrypted properly with Errors 15497 and 975 during boot - SAP ASE 16.0

Symptom

  • The sybsystemdb and sybsystemprocs database are configured for full database encryption
  • Enabled unattended start-up mode for the databases
  • The sybsystemdb and sybsystemprocs databases fail to recover with following error messages:

    Error: 15497, Severity: 16, State: 1
    The password for the master key of database 'master' has not been set.
    Error: 975, Severity: 17, State: 1
    The database 'sybsystemdb' is encrypted.
    Unable to proceed with the recovery of dbid <31513> because of previous errors.
    ...
    ...
    Error: 15497, Severity: 16, State: 1
    The password for the master key of database 'master' has not been set.
    Error: 975, Severity: 17, State: 1
    The database 'sybsystemprocs' is encrypted.
    Unable to proceed with the recovery of dbid <31514> because of previous errors.
  • If you use ASE 16.0 SP03 PL09 or later and the ASE has sybsecurity database, only sybsystemdb is affected.
