What is the mechanism in place to decide the language of the email sent to a candidate from the candidate's application?

Send an ad hoc or system email to the candidate from the application.

When sending emails to the candidate from the application the appLocale is the language the email is received in.

Language priority for emails to candidates is based on three locales - Application Locale (appLocale), Candidate Locale (candidateLocale), & User Locale.

• For the Application flow, Application Locale is the highest priority and hence the status change emails are received in the application locale. This is an expected behavior. 
• For the Candidate flow, Candidate Locale takes the highest priority and in the the case of Forwarded to Application/Invited to Apply on the application.
• If there is no locale maintained the locale of the email is that of the user sending the email.

Application Locale and Candidate Locale are determined by the Language selected in the top right corner on the career portal. They are database fields which cannot be defined in the template. 

Candidate Locale is maintained in the Candidate Profile. To change the Candidate Locale, go to the Candidate Profile page, switch the Language in the top right corner, and click Save. This will not affect the Application Locale, which means that the Candidate Locale and the Application Locale can be different.

Application Locale is maintained in the Job Application directly. To change the Application Locale, the candidate must navigate to Jobs Applied and select the application, then switch the Language in the top right corner, and click Update. This will change both the Application Locale and the Candidate Locale.
