3377151 - "R3trans -d" fails with SQL3906 because database is READ ONLY - SAP ASE for BS

Symptom

  • SAP Application does not work. "R3trans -d" fails with code 0012:

2EETW169 no connect possible: "DBMS = SYBASE --- "
R3trans finished (0012).

  • In trans.log, error 3906 reported due to <SID> database is READ ONLY:

ERROR: -1 in function GetDbAndUserNames (SQLExecDirect failed) [line 38388]
(3906) [ZZZZZ] [SAP][ASE ODBC Driver][Adaptive Server Enterprise]Attempt to BEGIN TRANSACTION in 
database <SID> failed because database is READ ONLY.
transaction aborted by server
ERROR: failed to retrieve db and user name
***LOG BY2=>sql error 3906 performing CON
***LOG BY0=>[ASE Error SQL3906]Attempt to BEGIN TRANSACTION in database <SID> failed because database is READ ONLY.

  • In ASE log file, there is no error reported during the latest DB restart.
  • Running 'sp_helpdb <SID>' via isql utility shows "read only" DB status.
