3377529 - Error 16749 and 16750 when increasing configurations that consume file descriptors - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Increasing a configuration that consumes file descriptors such as:
    • max online engines
    • number of user connections
    • number of devices
    • number of network listeners
    • number of remote sites
    • max cis remote connections
    • number of java sockets
    • max native threads per engine
    • number of devices
  • The sum of the file descriptors needed for the new configuration exceeds the amount of file descriptors used by ASE at boot time.
  • Error 16749 and 16750 is raised when this happens.
    Msg 16749, Level 16, State 1:
    Server 'ase', Procedure 'sp_configure', Line 1344:
    The number of file descriptors per ASE process required to support the configuration resulting from the value 50000 of the configuration parameter 'number of devices' exceeds the limit 40000 by 10581.
    Msg 16750, Level 16, State 1:
    Server 'ase', Procedure 'sp_configure', Line 1344:
    The maximum number of file descriptors per ASE process is calculated by the SMP edition in threaded mode using:
    (number of user connections + number of remote sites + max cis remote connections + number of java sockets + max number network listeners + max native threads per engine + overhead (16)).
