3378246 - Connectivity Issue with SMTP Adapter using STARTTLS

Symptom

You are testing the connectivity from your Cloud Integration tenant to an SMTP mail server but the connectivity is failing with one of the following errors - 

  • Cloud Based SMTP Server
    com.sun.mail.util.MailConnectException: Couldn't connect to host, port: XXX.XXX.XX.XXX, <PORT>; timeout 15000 Cause: java.net.ConnectException: error 111 - Connection refused (Connection refused)

  • On-Premise SMTP Server
    com.sun.mail.util.MailConnectException: Couldn't connect to host, port: XX.XXX.XX.XX, <PORT>; timeout 15000 Cause: java.net.SocketException: SOCKS5 command failed with status: FORBIDDEN

The following configurations are also in place - 

  • You are using STARTTLS
  • You are connecting to the IP Address of the mail server
