• Physical options are added to any table in a Hadoop Hive 2 Physical Data Model (PDM).
  
  
• Hive uses the ALTER TABLE statement to add metadata to tables:
     ALTER TABLE table_name SET TBLPROPERTIES table_properties;
     table_properties:
       : (property_name = property_value, property_name = property_value, ... )
  
  
• PD drops then recreates the table, although Hive supports the ALTER TABLE syntax.
