Symptom

When you select the BW/4HANA 2021 as target from source SAP BW/4HANA in Maintenance Planner, there is an error pops up as below:

Please check the validity of the selected target software. Click close, and continue with further planning. If the target selected, after closing this pop-up, doesn't get applied; please plan the same target once again. It would get applied then.
