3388370 - Colors do not get updated for bar chart columns in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) & SAP Digital Boardroom

Symptom

The following behavior occurs in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC):

  • You would like to change the color of a bar column in chart widget in designer palette, however for some measure the change does not get applied.
  • When changing styling color of data points or individual data, it works.

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise) 2023.16.10

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log on to SAC.
  2. Open affected story.
  3. Switch to edit mode.
  4. Open designer panel for the bar/column chart widget.
  5. Click on the affected value and try changing the color in member color setting.
  6. Notice it will not reflect on the bars of the chart.

Cause

  • This behavior is fixed in Optimized Design Experience and categorized as a classic story limitation. 
  • You may also meet this issue if you have set Legend color for some of your values, as Legend color will overwrite color changes in designer.

Resolution

  • It recommended to convert classic design stories with this issue to ODE.
  • If you have defined color under Legend, turn off/disable legend color in Styling panel first if you would like to be able to update bar colors in Designer panel.
