3389592 - Analysis Office workbook is not saved back to SAC when opened from browser

Symptom

An Analysis Office workbook is opened from SAC web client (e.g. browser).
When trying to save the changes via CTRL + S or via Excel's Save button, the changes are saved in the downloaded workbook (e.g. on local machine), but not in the original workbook which is stored in SAC.

Environment

SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open Analysis Workbook from SAC web client in browser;
  2. Change the workbook in Analysis Office;
  3. Try to save the workbook with CTRL + S or Excel's Save button;
  4. Confirm that the changes are saved on the downloaded workbook (e.g. on local machine), but not on the original workbook stored in SAC.

Cause

When using the browser to download AO workbooks from SAC, they are treated as local workbooks and it is not possible to save them back in SAC by using the Save button or CTRL + S. Using these options will override the local version of the workbook.

Resolution

To save the workbook back to SAC, it is necessary to use the backstage menu via File > Analysis > Save Workbook > Save a Workbook on the SAP Analytics Cloud platform.

When using AO to open the workbook via backstage menu (File > Analysis > Open Workbook > Open a Workbook from the SAP Analytics Cloud platform), saving it back to SAC via Excel Save button or CTRL + S works fine.

There is already a feature request to enhance this behavior on Customer Influence site.
