3394439 - AS JAVA Installation fails in step syb_step_setup_os - SAP ASE for Business Suite

Symptom

  • Java Application Server (Java AS) Installation fails with below error:
ERROR <YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss.ms> (root/sapinst) (startInstallation) [CSiStepExecute.cpp:1105] id=controller.stepExecuted errno=FCO-00011 CSiStepExecute::execute()
The step syb_step_setup_os with step key |NW_Java_OneHost|ind|ind|ind|ind|0|0|NW_Onehost_System|ind|ind|ind|ind|onehost|0|NW_CreateDBandLoad|ind|ind|ind|ind|createdbandload|0|NW_CreateDB|ind|ind|ind|ind|createdb|0|NW_SYBX_SWITCH|ind|ind|ind|ind|SYB_DB_CONTEXT|0|NW_SYB_DB|ind|ind|ind|ind|id_NW_SYB_DB|0|syb_step_setup_os was executed with status ERROR (Last error reported by the step: TypeError: fileMgt.createFile(fileName) has no properties (in script NW_Java_OneHost|ind|ind|ind|ind, line 90841: ???)).
 
  • Checking in more details the sapinst_dev.log, it shows the sybase user for the ASE being installed already exists and failing to write its .login file:

    syb_fix_swpm_user_environment: write empty file /sybase/<SID>/.login Writing this OS user login file .login fails


  • The sapinst_dev.log may also report that the nstallation folder is below /sybase/:
