Symptom
- The widget no longer displays data when changing the hierarchy of the Time dimension from "Year, Half-Year, Quarter" to "Year, Quarter" in SAP Analytics Cloud.
- In the model, the Time dimension is a System-Managed dimension and the default hierarchy is set to "Year, Half-Year, Quarter".
- Even when changing the default hierarchy of the Time dimension to "Year, Quarter", the widget continues to display no data.
Environment
SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise) 2023.21.6
Reproducing the Issue
- Log on to SAP analytics Cloud tenant
- Create a model with measures and a System-Managed Time dimension
- Set the default hierarchy for this dimension to "Year, Half-Year, Quarter"
- Create a story using this newly created model
- Add a chart and/or a table to this story
- Add a measure and the time dimension to this widget
- Set the hierarchy of the time dimension to "Year, Half-Year, Quarter"
- Save the story
- Change the hierarchy of the time dimension to "Year, Quarter"
- Note the massage: No data is available for the chart/table to render on the widget
- Go back to the model and change the default hierarchy of the Time dimension to "Year, Quarter"
- Edit any calculated measure that uses the Time dimension and make few changes to it
- Save the model
- Go back to the story and refresh it
- Note that the widget displays data when the hierarchy is set to "Year, Quarter".
Cause
This issue is a known limitation of Time Hierarchy when working with Accounts.
Resolution
Please refer to the SAP Help Page: Dynamic Time Navigation Functions.
Note:
- If you use the dynamic time navigation functions, the time dimension needs to be part of the drill state. Consider adding the time dimension to the list of required dimensions so that a story builder adds the time dimension to the drill state.
- In stories, use the default date hierarchy when working with accounts that use dynamic time navigation. When a widget doesn’t use the default date hierarchy, these accounts don’t show any data.
- i.e. dynamic time functions created in the modeler only work with the default time hierarchy, which was set when the formula was created.
- If the user wants to use the formula with a different hierarchy you need to set that hierarchy as the default hierarchy and rebuild the dynamic time formula.
