3405039 - Sales Order Cannot Be Released When a Line Item Has No Product

A Sales Order containing a blank line item can be saved successfully, but the Release Order button remains greyed out.

The error message "Item XX: Product for item is missing" is displayed, and the Sales Order cannot be released (XX represents the line item). 

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Go to the Sales Order work center.
2. Select the Sales Orders view.
3. Create a new Sales Order.
4. Navigate to the Items tab.
5. Add a row without maintaining a product in the line item.
6. Click Save.
7. The Sales Order is saved successfully with status In Preparation.
8. The Release Order button is greyed out.
9. The error message "Item XX: Product for item is missing" is displayed.

The Sales Order cannot be released when a line item has been added without maintaining the required product information. 

This is system standard behavior.

A Sales Order can be saved without any line items. However, a Sales Order can be released only when at least one line item with product information is maintained.

Add a line item and maintain the required product information, then save and release the Sales Order.
