3408515 - SMTP Email Notifications are not Sent Out

Symptom

  • Email notifications are not being sent out (after, for example, new customer user registration or order confirmation).
  • Following a groovy script executed in HAC for Backgroundprocessing or Backoffice as described in KBA 2883911 - How to Troubleshoot Email Sending Failures results in the error stacktrace with the following definite cause:
    • Caused by: javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException: 535 5.7.139 Authentication unsuccessful, the user credentials were incorrect.
  • Credentials were verified as correct with customer's SMTP provider.
  • The results either in groovy script results or in debug logs have the following error:
    • Message: Sending the email to the following server failed : smtp.office365.com:587

      Cause: 535 5.7.139 Authentication unsuccessful, the user credentials were incorrect.
