3408991 - Show Totals option is not available for the account dimension in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

Is it not possible to enable the Show Totals option for some dimensions, such as account, version in the tables in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).

SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise)

1. Open an SAC story.
2. Right click the dimension header.
3. Show/Hide -> totals is greyed out.
4. For other dimension headers, show totals option is available.

The dimension of type 'Account' is not aggregable and thus does not offer a 'total' calculation. The same is true for other dimensions: measure, version, cross calculation.

For these dimensions, a 'total' calculation is semantically wrong. These dimensions are called 'not aggregable'.

Maybe the best example is the version dimensions. Aggregating over different versions is semantically very questionable. You may construct some counter examples, but in general it is not useful. Imagine you have two forecast versions that you use to try out different assumptions for the future. The sum of these two forecast versions is not a useful number. Also you may want to create a third forecast version for a third scenario. Roughly the total over the version dimension would artificially grow by roughly 50% without reflecting any business.

This is as design.

Among these dimensions, the account dimension is less restrictive. It allows to define a hierarchy. Aggregating along this hierarchy is allowed as this hierarchy is defined by the model designer who expressed real business relations among the members of the account dimensions.

Thus you may achieve what you ask for by adding a single root node to the account hierarchy and then have this root node visible in your table. Whether or not this option can be used depends on your business that you express in this model. Technically the dimension of type 'Account cannot be aggregated (outside of the parent child hierarchy).
