The purpose of the "Defer Layout Update" mode:

• Usually it should be switched off. Activating it makes only sense if you want to do 2 or more layout changes. Because if the "Defer Layout Update" mode isn't active the layout update happens after each change and each layout update might take some time.
• Once the changes to the layout are done the user should switch it off again, the layout will then be updated and reflect all the changes. Any further change to the layout will then update the grid immediately.
• In case that there is a high number of layout changes to be done, the user might want to see the intermediate result after some of these changes. In that case he can of course deactivate and reactivate the "Defer Layout Update" mode, but there is also a refresh button which allows to bring the grid to the current intermediate state. You can find this refresh button in the navigation panel toolbar on the left side of the button you use to activate the "Defer Layout Update" mode.

There are 2 types of refresh updates:

• Data update which is triggered by pressing the Go button: The query is re-executed and if data on the database or filter bar values have been changed in the meanwhile this will be reflected.
• Layout update: This is usually automatically applied when changing any layout setting. There is no re-execution of the query, no reselection of data from the database.

The defer layout update option pauses all updates. Once the layout update mode is switched off all pending updates are applied.

In sum, "Defer Layout Update" mode cannot auto refresh the result of Web Dynpro apps.
